Who runs Whoseween
Whoseween is run by its owner, one person in Canada. On this page “we” means the site and the person who runs it.
To reach us, write to hello@whoseween.com.
These are the terms for using the site. The Rules page says how the game and the ranking work and what a photo may show. When you use the site, you agree to both. The Privacy page says what we keep.
Who may take part
Anyone can take part, whatever their age and wherever they live.
- Anyone can vote, guess and browse. Playing needs no account and takes no personal details.
- To enter a costume you need an account. An account is your email and a six-digit code we send to it. There are no passwords and no usernames.
- When you upload, you give your first and last name. It is shown on your costume’s page, and never on a board or in the games. If you are under 18, only your first name is shown.
- You must be 13 or over to have an account and to enter. A child under 13 cannot have one.
- To buy a pass you must be 18 or over, or 13 or over with a parent’s permission.
We ask your date of birth when you upload, and we rely on your answer.
When you upload
When you upload a costume, you agree to this.
- It is your own costume, and you are in the photo or have the say-so of everyone who is.
- If it is a child’s photo, you are the child’s parent or guardian.
- The photo follows what the Rules page says a photo may show.
- We may show the photo on the boards, in the games, on share cards and in the Hall of Fame until it is removed.
- A board lists every costume by its rank and its name. A visitor with no pass is shown the first twenty places of the world’s board clear, and for the rest a small blurred copy of your photo in place of the photo.
- We may show your first and last name on your costume’s page, with what you dressed as. It is the name on your certificate, and on a plaque if plaques are sent. It is never shown on a board or in the games.
When you enter a house, you agree that it is the outside of your own home, and that everyone in the photo has said yes. We may show its photo, its title and its city as we show a costume: on the Houses boards, in the houses’ game, on share cards and in the Hall of Fame, until it is removed. We show no person’s name with it.
Every upload goes through the photo check before it is shown. A photo against the rules is refused, and you are told the reason.
A free account enters one costume a season, and a pass allows three. You may replace the photo of each once.
An entry has two photos at most. If you remove a costume and enter another, that counts as the replacement: the new one cannot be replaced, and if you remove it too, that entry is over for the season. A photo that was refused does not count.
You can correct your name on your account page. A name that is rude, or plainly not a name, can be reported like a photo, and we may clear it. You are then asked for it at your next upload.
Removing and deleting
Removing a costume and deleting your account are both buttons on your account page.
- “Remove my costume” takes it off every board at once.
- “Delete my account” removes the account, its photos, its name, its passes and its email.
There is one exception. A photo our check marks as possibly illegal, or one that reports have hidden, is kept, locked away, with the record of where it came from, until a person has looked. Removing it or deleting your account does not destroy it before then.
After the final, every costume’s page stays in the Hall of Fame with its final ranks until its owner removes it.
If you are in someone else’s photo, or you are the parent of a child in one, ask for it to be removed through the report button on the costume’s page, or by writing to hello@whoseween.com.
The passes
Everything that makes the site fun and worth sharing is free. A pass adds depth and a keepsake.
- The Season Pass is one payment of US$4.99. It is not a subscription. It is good from the moment you buy it until the next season opens.
- It shows you every costume on the world’s board, clear, with its page a tap away, and the board of any city, state, province or country. It opens the Report Card for your costume and for any other, with your rivals in it, your certificate at the final and all of the Hall of Fame. It also lets you enter three costumes and three houses a season.
- Without a pass, the world’s board still lists every costume by its rank and its name. Its first twenty places are shown clear. The rest are shown as a blurred copy of the photo. The boards of single places are not shown without a pass.
- The Patron pass is the same pass at US$9.99, for people who want to support the site. It adds a small gold seal to your costume’s page. The seal is never shown in the games.
- The checkout shows the price in your own currency.
- You must be 18 or over to pay, or 13 or over with a parent’s permission.
- A pass is tied to the email you give at the checkout, and your account is made from it.
A pass is never an entry fee. Uploading is free, and there are no prizes. Paying never changes a rank, and never changes how often a costume is shown to voters.
All sales are final. Once a pass is bought we do not give the money back, except where the law says we must.
If a payment is returned all the same, for example because your bank takes it back, the pass it paid for is closed. The costumes you entered with it stay on the site, and you can enter no more.
Who sells the passes
We sell the passes. Stripe takes the payment for us, on its own checkout page, and sends your receipt.
For now the passes are sold in Canada and the United States only.
Stripe holds your card details. We never see them and never keep them.
Removals and bans
- A photo that breaks the Rules is refused or removed.
- A costume reported by three different visitors is hidden until a person has looked.
- A photo that sexualises anyone who may be under 18 is refused, and reported if it is illegal.
- Votes that come from cheating are left out, and the ranking corrects itself.
We may close the account of anyone who breaks the Rules or these terms, or who tries to cheat the ranking, and refuse their uploads.
If you think we got a decision wrong, write to hello@whoseween.com.
What we cannot promise
We run the site with care, and we offer it as it is. We cannot promise that it will always be up, that it will be free of mistakes, or that the photo check and the ranking will never get something wrong.
A rank comes from other people’s votes. It is not a prize, and it is worth no money.
Disclaimers
- Whoseween is a game, made for fun. Nothing on it is a contest with a prize, a lottery or a bet.
- Whoseween is not connected to, sponsored by or endorsed by any film, show, game, brand or person a costume shows. Characters, names and marks belong to their owners.
- Each photo, name and title is its uploader’s own, and is their responsibility. We check photos with care, and we cannot promise that every one is what its uploader says. If something should not be here, report it and we will look.
- A rank is what other visitors voted. It is not our opinion of anyone, and it says nothing about a person.
- We may change the site, close it, or remove any entry, vote or account, at any time.
- A photo of a house is not an invitation. Do not visit, contact or photograph a home because it is on the site.
- As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss that comes from using the site, and what we owe you is never more than what you paid us in the last twelve months.
Nothing here takes away a right the law gives you and does not let you give up.
The law, and changes
These terms are read under the laws of Ontario, Canada.
When these terms change, the date at the top of this page changes with them.
